You may have noticed that I've been quiet here, for a few months I've been on a deep and uncomfortable journey, breaking down old paradigms and nurturing new ways of seeing, being and creating. This metamorphosis has led me to a clearer, more personal impactful "Theory of Change," one that resonates with the very essence of our multisensory, multidimensional world.

Embracing Regenerative Transformation: Beyond Sound, Into Full Sensory Immersion

"What type of ancestor do you want to be?" I've been asking this question for years. Now, I'm going further by co-creating spaces for reflection, incorporating biodiversity goals as impact measurements in the design process.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Immersed in these transformative spaces, we'll feel deeply, question boldly, and awaken our senses and ignite our collective imagination. These moments of reflection will inspire us to take meaningful action and shape a legacy we're proud of.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

I recently had the privilege of co-producing and co-hosting "The Future is Sound" at Alexandra Palace. This event was a journey back to basics, using sound as our primary medium, a nod to one of humanity's earliest forms of communication. We explored the fusion of sound with sensory experiences, highlighting its role as a universal language. The program demonstrated how music interweaves with urban life, nature, and personal journeys. Through powerful multisensory experiences, we emphasised how sound can enhance and restore our awareness of the symbiotic relationship we share with our environment.

Key Insights: The Multisensory Symphony of Regeneration

1. Regenerative Soundscape: Bon Vision Music's opening performance highlighted sound's role in regeneration, blending digital and natural worlds through technology.

2. Digital Naturalism: Belle Chen's digital piano deepened our connection to nature, inspiring regenerative practices through a mix of digital and organic elements.

3. Ancestral Futurism: Sam Lee & Axel Wild’s "Singing with Nightingales" reimagined ancient practices with modern tech to support habitat regeneration, fusing past and future.

4. Global Rhythms: Montañera's folk-electronic fusion connected Colombia's forests to London's streets, illustrating diverse ecosystems' regeneration.

5. Neuroscience and Community: Dr. Martha Newson's work on rituals and raves emphasised immersive experiences' impact on connection and community regeneration.

6. Urban Sense-scaping: Bushwacka!'s (Matthew Benjamin) transformation of urban echoes into soundscapes showed the potential for regenerating sensory environments to enhance our quality of life.

7. Visualising Impact: Normski's photography narrated cultural regeneration through art, leading to environmental and social renewal.

Looking to a Regenerative Future

As Robot Koch, Kate Fleur Young, and Katt Newlon concluded their haunting closing performance, my Cyborg Shamanism™ philosophy materialised, highlighting the potential for a regenerative relationship between digital technology and nature, and emphasising the power of multisensory, multimodal approaches.

Their collaboration embodies my mission: blending electronic, vocal, acoustic, and natural sound recordings with visual and physical elements to create something powerful enough to shift perspectives and reveal intriguing possibilities. By bringing together artists, thinkers, and innovators, I look for new perspectives to amplify the often invisible and overlooked elements of our world. Koch's electronic expertise, Young's ethereal vocals, and Newlon's soulful cello showcased how different elements can unite to envision a harmonious, regenerative future for the listeners experience) future.

I am not alone in this mission. 

The Future is Sound has reached its five-year milestone, thanks to the vision and determination of its founder, my friend Jimmy Kyriacou, and everyone who took to our stage this year. I am now choosing to reconnect with a side of myself that I had neglected: the "enthusiastic curator of people, patterns, and stories."

Understanding that the climate crisis is just one aspect of a broader biodiversity challenge, my mission, my Ikigai, is to highlight the urgent need to address the discordant harmonies affecting all of life, through multisensory experiences.

I am embracing a thoughtful, intentional approach, rather than rushing, to ensure each step is deliberate and considered.

A Love That Burns has been on repeat tonight.

This week I’m in Chapada Diamantina, the national park of the state of Bahia in Brazil.

I had a 3 hour flight from London to Lisbon, a 5 hour wait at the airport. An 8 hour flight from Lisbon to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. An 8 hour coach journey, a 1 hour minibus journey and finally a 10 minute car ride to arrive at my beautiful mountain home for the next week.

Little did I fully comprehend that my journey here would also mark the beginning of a personal Vision Quest, of sorts. Traditionally, a Vision Quest involves a solitary and meditative retreat in nature, seeking to elicit transformative visions that offer guidance and profound insight.

I'm curious about the insights that will emerge after nearly three weeks in Brazil. I might explore this more and share some of them later, but what I appreciate right now is how, within just three days of being here, my awareness has grown more profound. My senses, especially my sense of hearing, have become finely attuned.

More than anything I love the sounds of the insects. It feels like I can actually feel my whole nervous system exhale.

I'm now even more intrigued by the "invisible visible" sounds present in our everyday soundscapes, the ones we often tune out in the rush of daily life's demands and the impact that has on our mental health and well-being.

SANBA YO PRAN PALE // THE POETS SPEAK

This track has been on repeat for weeks. It's not just the beat that draws me in, it resonates with me on a visceral and somatic level. I feel it in my body, my bones, my blood. I feel emotionally connected to it.

This week I finally looked into the meaning behind lyrics and the singers behind the voices. The Sanbas are the poets and guardians of Haitian history and culture. They share their wisdom through the art of song and storytelling. 'Sanba Yo Pran Pale' is an invitation to the Sanbas, urging them to express their truths while honoring the vodou spirits.

With my current focus on exploring ancestry, this track becomes even more beautiful for me. Maybe I’ll make a playlist of the sounds of my ancestors.

This Caribbean twist on a traditional Paella has become one of my go-to recipes when I’m in the mood for comfort food.

The flavours are a blend of sweet spices that remind me of my mum’s cooking, a dash of freshness from the garden peas and a little kick from the scotch bonnet pepper. My whole being feels nourished by this dish. It reminds me of that moment I first slide into a hot bath.

A few years ago, my dear friend Robbie Stamp introduced me to the perfume company Ffern. The company embodies a simple yet powerful vision: to revive perfumery's artisanal essence. Guided by this vision, they make fragrances from the finest sustainably sourced organic ingredients, ensuring they are vegan. Honoring the natural rhythms of the seasons, the company blends and bottles four distinct fragrances annually, each released during the equinoxes and solstices.

This week I am loving and appreciating the slowness of craft and the scent of Summer 23. The scent reminds me of a summers day out in the English countryside, of the sounds of insects and cloudless skies. It reminds my of luxuriating in stillness.
